Vivian Maier

In 2007, John Maloof purchased a box of negatives at an auction in Chicago. He didn't find what he was hoping for - he found something better. The box contained thousands of negatives shot by previously unknown street photographer Vivian Maier. Ms Maier had been a nanny in Chicago. On her days off, she wandered about with her Rolleiflex camera taking photos. The results are stunning - with hints of Diane Arbus and Harry Callahan. Ms Maier died in 2009 shortly before her archive was "discovered." The New York times Lens blog has a feature on Maier's work here. Additional images are posted on the Chicago Magazine site here.
I have posted some images here to get you started. Enjoy!
